About The Goat Company

The Goat Company was established in 1992, with eight female goats and

four kids. The original concept was to produce designer knitwear and build a show quality flock. These aims were soon attained and the business has proceeded to flourish and grow, the flock is now around 100 goats and the Company is sending products all over the world. All the product design is done by Robi Mandley, and the socks and mohair yarn is hand dyed at the farm. The product range has greatly increased from just knitwear and Robi uses her extensive knowledge of textiles to design and produce exclusive luxury garments, accessories and woven fabrics, all using the pure mohair from the flock.

Angora goats originated in Turkey and were known to exist in biblical times. They produce beautiful, lustrous fibre that is strong, yet lightweight and supremely warm.

The Goat Company is located in a lovely remote valley in The Black Mountains. The small flock of around 70 goats, mainly white with a few rare coloured ones live as a family group, although they have very individual personalities. Many of them are top prize winners. Daren Farm is a busy, fully organic farm and the goats can be found grazing amongst native pedigree Welsh Black cattle and Suffolk sheep.

The goats kid in February, the adults are sheared twice a year. The fleeces are carefully graded to ensure only the best quality fibre is used in our products. Our selective breeding and management policy aims to produce the finest quality, purely natural products 'from grass to garment'.
